First Friday: The February Edition

Between TikTokers spilling secrets, dancing rats, and a whole lot of Adverbian shenanigans, January was a busy month in the world of social media.

Luckily for you, it’s the first Friday of the month! That means we’re here to help you catch up on trends you may have missed. Let’s dive in!

Trending Lifestyle Audios

Messy X Dreams Remix – Altego

The Altego Music twins are the kings of making trending Instagram audios that are bound to get stuck in your head! This remix features the song “Messy” by Lola Young and “Dreams” by Fleetwood Mac.

From baking videos that will make your mouth water to fan art drawings of Marvel characters, this audio trended because of how well it could adapt to any type of content. More than 100k reels (and counting) already feature this audio, so don’t be afraid to use it in February!

That’s the Way I Like It

This trend uses the song “30 for 30” by SZA and as the title suggests, it’s all about sharing the things you like. It’s effortlessly cool and sets the perfect mood for aesthetic clips, food videos, or other types of lifestyle content.

The clip of the song that has gotten popular on Instagram Reels is only eight seconds long—but don’t let that discourage you if you are looking to get in on this trend. Sometimes the shortest clips can be the most powerful.

Trending Comedic Audios

I Didn’t Care for the Godfather

We saw this trend take off in the week leading up to the US TikTok ban (that only lasted 12 hours). American users started posting themselves lip-syncing to this audio from Family Guy, saying that since TikTok was getting banned, they had a secret they needed to share.

For the American creators that used this trend, many of them revealed secrets about their content, like what videos were faked or that they never actually tried any of their beauty hacks. Other users took the trend in a different direction and used the audio to share hot takes or admit to random, otherwise mundane things, like never watching Frozen

Are You Kidding? That’s Unfair! …I Need to Calm Down

We’ve all had those moments when we overreact to something, only to realize we need to tell ourselves to calm down. Those moments are exactly what this trend is all about! The original clip comes from a clip of a mock Jeopardy game posted on the YouTube channel “Smosh Pit.”

We saw this trend take off on Instagram, with users sharing relatable moments, such as getting too invested in books, having knitting problems, or when someone disses the library

Bored? Pretend to get into Harvard!

Have nothing to do today? Gather some friends and pretend like you just opened your Harvard acceptance letter — after all, everyone else is doing it

Using a remix of the songs “7 Years” and “Latch,” people on social media gathered their friends and family around a laptop to act out the scene of nervously clicking that acceptance email, and promptly celebrating their pretend acceptance.

Although this trend started with Harvard reactions, it quickly evolved into people doing the same reactions for exciting moments, like when you realize you have money for McDonalds, or when your pizza was being made—even we had to hop on this trend!

The Rat Dance

Just because there are no rats in Alberta doesn’t mean they’re not taking over our TikTok feeds this month… Sort of.

What originally started as a simple video of an animated rat dancing quickly took off into a new dance trend with others (people, not rats) filming themselves doing the same dance. From people dancing alone or in groups to brands joining in and other animated rats — the Rat Dance is turning into a very iconic dance trend.

Adverb’s Annual Retreat

In January, our whole team came together from far and wide for our annual Adverb Retreat! Our staff retreat is usually the only time each year we get to pile all the Advberbians into one room together.

Curious about all of the other things we got up to? Check out our recap video!

Plus, we’ll have a few more pieces of content we will be sharing in the upcoming week, so keep your eyes peeled!

Your friends,

Adverb.
